The British television and broadcasting regulator of the OFCOM threatens the pro-Kremlin television channel of Russia Today for non-compliance with the requirement of impartiality in the coverage of the situation in Ukraine. It is reported by The Guardian. Representatives of the channel are called to meet at OFCOM. RT can be fined or even deprived of a broadcast license.

In total, the regulator discovered four cases when the channel violated the requirement of impartiality. All of them belong to the March of this year and all relate to the coverage of the situation in Ukraine.

As stated in an offom statement, the organization understands that RT "would like to represent news from a Russian point of view." At the same time, the document is noted, all the news should be submitted impartially - "especially those related to issues that cause major political disputes."

“OFCOM has strict rules for protecting the listeners,” said the organization’s representative. “If broadcasters violate our rules, we take quick and strict measures.”

The editor -in -chief of RT Margarita Simonyan, for her part, assured that the TV channel adhered and will continue to adhere to the rules established by the regulator. At the same time, she hinted that offom adheres to double standards, because, achieving impartiality from RT, at the same time does not require broadcasters to tell the point of view opposite to the views of the European and American political establishment.

RT has been broadcast in Britain since 2005. The past nine years in the country was broadcast by the English -language international television channel. On October 30 of this year, a new channel was launched, focused on Britain.
