Until December 31, the American television channel will stop broadcasting in Russia's cable networks. This was reported by Vedomosti with reference to a letter sent by Turner BroadCasting System Europe Limited to cable operators. The Vimpelkom and Akado confirmed that such a notification was received.

The reasons for the decision in the letter are not explained. In the Russian division of CNN, the newspaper also did not give comments.

According to TASS, the representative of Roskomnadzor Vadim Ampelonsky rejected the involvement of his department in what was happening. "The reasons for the cessation of broadcasting of the television channel must be asked by CNN shareholders," the official said.

CNN, founded in 1980, is one of the first television channels in the world to start round -the -clock broadcasting. In 1983, the representative office of the channel in the Soviet Union was opened. For several years in the early 1990s, CNN was broadcast on the air of "Channel 24", which belonged to the Cosmos TV satellite operator; Then he began to broadcast in cable networks.

In 2009, Roskomnadzor began demanding from foreign channels to receive local broadcast licenses. CNN submitted such an application, however, according to Vedomosti, I did not receive a license. As it is assumed, CNN did not create a Russian legal entity with a Russian partner, which was needed to decorate this paper. The last three years, CNN has been broadcast on the basis of a letter from a television company, which stated that the channel was in the process of obtaining a license. At the same time, supervisory authorities did not make CNN complaints.

In 2010, amendments were adopted in the media law that limit the participation of foreign persons in the capital of television and radio companies 50 percent. Later, in September 2014, the legislation was tightened even more-new amendments allow a maximum of the 20 percent share of foreign persons in Russian media, not only electronic, but also printed ones.

Meanwhile, the last few years, foreign electronic media outlets stop broadcasting one after another, going to the Internet. In 2008, the Voice of America did this, in 2009-the international French radio, in 2011-the Russian BBC service and the German Wave, in 2012-Radio Liberty.
