Rosprirodnadzor opened a case regarding the smell of hydrogen sulfide in Moscow
Rosprirodnadzor, in connection with the appearance in Moscow of the smell of hydrogen sulfide, opened an administrative case under the article “Violation of the rules for the protection of atmospheric air” and is conducting an administrative investigation against an unidentified person, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation Rinat Gizatulin said. Information on this fact was sent to the Moscow prosecutor's office.
According to Gizatulin, Rosprirodnadzor is checking four enterprises that could cause a specific smell in the city: the Moscow Oil Refinery, the Moscow Coke Plant, Mosvodokanal and a number of Moscow thermal power plants. The test results have not yet been released.
Earlier on November 10, Yury Akimov, First Deputy Head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Moscow, said that the accident at the Moscow Oil Refinery was the cause of the unpleasant odor. Gazprom Energoholding, which owns the refinery, said reports of the accident were untrue.
“According to experts, the source of the emission is associated with oil refinery production, gas generation or the use of fuel oil at thermal power plants in the event of disrupted operation of gas treatment plants,” the Ministry of Natural Resources specified.
- Reports of a specific smell of hydrogen sulfide were received on November 10 from different parts of Moscow. In particular, an unpleasant smell was reported in the areas of the Tulskaya, Nagatinskaya, Universitet metro stations, on Taganka, as well as in the city center - on the Arbat and in the State Duma building on Okhotny Ryad.
- GPBU Mosecomonitoring reported that the maximum one-time standard for hydrogen sulfide on the morning of November 10 was exceeded in the southeast and east of Moscow, on Lukhmanovskaya, 16th Parkovaya and Golovacheva streets. At the same time, according to environmentalists, in the whole city on Monday morning, a reduced level of air pollution remained.
- Nature Minister Sergey Donskoy instructed Rosprirodnadzor, together with the Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection of Moscow, to check enterprises that could be the source of the smell of hydrogen sulfide in the city. The Ministry of Emergency Situations, in turn, advised residents of the city to spend less time on the street, and close windows and doors indoors.
