The Kazakh authorities have announced a large-scale package of financial measures aimed at continuing structural reforms in the economy. Nursultan Nazarbayev stated this in his address to the people. According to the President of Kazakhstan, the government of the country, starting from January 1, 2015, will invest $3 billion from the National Fund annually for three years. This will happen within the framework of the new economic policy, which involves ensuring sustainable economic growth in the country. The main investments will go to the development of infrastructure, as well as to support the investment climate, small and medium-sized businesses, Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

At the same time, Nursultan Nazarbayev promised that all social obligations to the population will be fulfilled in full. Despite the impressive investment amounts, the risk for the Kazakh government is minimal. So says Deputy General Director of the Information and Analytical Center of Moscow State University Yulia Yakusheva.

“The measures that were proposed by Nazarbayev are a game of anticipation. I would not say that this is a risk, because the money is allocated not from the budget, but from a special fund. This is spare money in any case. It will not just be spent on plugging holes or putting out fires in the economy, but rather to maintain economic stability and create the basis for reviving the economy, because in modern conditions, of course, there is a threat of economic stagnation,” Yakusheva noted.

As of the end of October, the volume of the National Fund of Kazakhstan amounted to almost $90 billion. The region’s economy is not experiencing problems, the new program insures Kazakhstan against financial instability, believes the head of the Foreign Policy analytical agency, MGIMO teacher Andrei Sushentsov.

“Kazakhstan in February carried out a proactive devaluation of its currency, by approximately 18-19%. This made it possible to compensate for the economic costs that the country is experiencing due to the depreciation of the currency associated with falling energy prices.
