The British driver of the Mercedes team won the second Formula 1 world title in his career.
Hamilton won the final round of the 2014 season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, on November 23.
Before this stage, another Mercedes pilot claimed the title of world champion - the German Nico Rosberg, who was 17 points behind Hamilton.
Rosberg finished in second overall, third was Daniel Ricciardo of Team Red Bull.
The victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was Hamilton's eleventh of the season. Previously, only representatives of Germany won such a number of victories in one season - Michael Schumacher (in 2002 and 2004) and Sebastian Vettel (in 2011 and 2013) (English).
