The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation appealed to the Moscow City Court demanding that the unregistered movement "People's Militia named after K. Minin and D. Pozharsky", headed by retired GRU colonel Vladimir Kvachkov, be recognized as terrorist. The first hearing on the motion ban lawsuit will take place on December 8.
“The corresponding statement of claim was submitted to the court, pre-trial preparation in this case is scheduled for December 8,” said Moscow City Court spokeswoman Ulyana Solopova.
- Vladimir Kvachkov was sentenced to 8 years in prison in 2013 for preparing a rebellion. As follows from the case file, Kvachkov and a group of his supporters were going to seize the buildings of law enforcement agencies in the city of Kovrov, Vladimir Region, and organize an armed campaign against Moscow. The retired colonel refused to plead guilty during the trial.
- In 2005, Kvachkov was arrested on charges of involvement in the assassination attempt on the head of Rosnano, Anatoly Chubais (a bomb was blown up along the route of his cortege). In 2008, the jury found Kvachkov not guilty, and 2 years later, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation approved the acquittal.
