Trade unions demanded an end to mass layoffs of doctors
The Confederation of Labor of Russia, which unites more than 20 all-Russian and interregional trade unions, demanded an end to the mass layoffs of medical workers in Moscow, the cancellation of decisions already made on dismissal, and also to prevent similar cuts in the regions.
“The all-Russian campaign against the collapse of domestic healthcare, the events scheduled for November 29-30, including rallies in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities, will be held as planned,” said Boris Kravchenko, president of the confederation, member of the presidential Council for Human Rights.
According to Kravchenko, the confederation will seek to ensure that protesting doctors participate in negotiations with the Moscow government, "and not anonymous representatives of the public and trade unions."
“We demand consideration of all our demands on the merits, open public discussion of the strategy and content of the ongoing reform,” Boris Kravchenko.
- On October 15, the Russian Medical Server published a schedule for the reform of medicine in Moscow, according to which it is planned to reduce the staff of 28 hospitals and transfer equipment to other medical institutions. Moscow Vice Mayor Leonid Pechatnikov said that the schedule was prepared based on the results of an expert study and it is not planned to be fully implemented.
- The Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Veronika Skvortsova said that medical workers who fell under the layoff in Moscow will try to find work in the regions.
- Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin promised that dismissed medical workers, in addition to the payments provided for by the Labor Code, will receive compensation in the amount of 200 thousand to 500 thousand rubles from the city budget.
- In early November, a rally was held in Moscow against the reduction of doctors and the liquidation of medical institutions, about 6 thousand people became its participants. Similar actions are planned for November 29-30 in approximately 20 Russian cities.
