The euro exchange rate on the Moscow Exchange has overcome the mark of 67 rubles. During the day it rose by more than 3 rubles. The dollar exchange rate exceeded 54 rubles. The RTS index for the day fell by almost 3.5% to 925 points.
- The ruble has been depreciating rapidly in recent months due to lower world oil prices, a slowdown in the growth of the Russian economy and Western sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation in connection with its policy towards Ukraine.
- The fall of the ruble accelerated after the November 27 Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) at a summit in Vienna decided not to cut production in order to increase oil prices. It is expected that the existing quota of 30 million barrels per day will be maintained for at least six months.
- On December 2, the Ministry of Economic Development presented a new forecast for the dollar and oil prices for 2015. The ministry estimates that the dollar will cost 49 rubles and oil $80 per barrel. At auction in London on December 2, Brent oil costs about $71.4 per barrel.
