A Lithuanian court sentenced the son of former Chechen separatist leader Dzhokhar Dudayev to a fine of 3.25 thousand litas (about 940 euros) for forging passports. The prosecution asked the court to sentence Dagi Dudayev to a suspended sentence.
The son of Dzhokhar Dudayev was detained in March 2011 for illegally crossing the Lithuanian border. Seven false passports were found on Daga Dudayev’s person. Initially, he denied his guilt in forging documents, but then confessed, saying that he needed the fake passports in order to help his relatives leave Russia.
Dudayev Jr. is also charged with possession of drugs without the purpose of selling them. But the statute of limitations on this charge had expired by December 2014.
After the detention of Daga Dudayev by Lithuanian law enforcement agencies, his mother Alla called the incident “a provocation of the Russian special services.”
Dudayev claimed that he committed crimes allegedly out of a desire to help relatives living there leave Russia, who could not do this because of their relationship with the former Chechen leader.
