The Hermitage opens the imperial arena for the public

Today, December 5, the State Hermitage opens in the building of the former imperial arena three exhibitions dedicated to the history of the museum, Old Russian and British art.

According to Interfax with reference to the press service of the museum, the Hermitage will first open to the public a former imperial arena, who served in the Soviet years a repository.

The exhibition "History of the Hermitage in the Mirror of Squares" is timed to the 250th anniversary of the museum and is devoted to historical windows, in the forms, materials, designs and decor of which they reflected all the stages of the existence of the Hermitage. The idea to make an exposition based on museum windows belongs to the architect Ram Colhas.

At the exhibition from the collection of museums of the Moscow Kremlin, Sakkos is represented, belonging to the Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Rus' Alexy, who at the head of the church from 1354 to 1378.

The Hermitage also opens an exhibition-landing from the British Museum, on which, in particular, the statue of the Greek god Ilissos can be seen, the first object from the sculptural ensemble of the Parthenon, stored in London from the 19th century, which will be transmitted to Greece.
