The Internet in Russia decreases the faster in the world

According to the report “Freedom on the network - 2014” by the non -profit organization Freedom House, over the past five years, Russia has demonstrated the fastest - along with Turkey - a decrease in the indicator of Internet freedom among 65 countries of the world.

Russia, as a year earlier, is recognized as a “partially free country,” reports Rublackist.net . According to the general indicators of state censorship, content restrictions and user rights violations, Russia in 2014 scored 60 out of 100 points (0 is complete freedom on the Internet), having lost 11 points in five years.

The most sharp fall in the ranking of Russia occurred over the past year, when the country lost 6 points at once compared to last year (last year Russia had 54 points) and stopped in just one point from the border of the zone in which the country is called not free for network interaction.

The study by Freedom House covers 65 countries from May 2013 to May 2014. The negative trend regarding the freedom of the Internet was shown by 36 out of 65 countries.

It is noted that more and more countries adopt laws that legitimize the existence of repression on the Internet and criminalize dissent. The past year also showed an increase in state pressure on independent online media and an increase in the number of detentions and prosecution of people for their activities on the Internet.
