Gennady Ivanovich Polok was born in 1930 in Samara, in 1948-1950 he studied at the acting department of the Higher Theater School named after M.S. Shchepkina, in 1957 he graduated from the director's faculty of VGIK (workshop of Leo Kuleshov and Alexandra Khokhlova) and became the director of the Mosfilm studio.
In 1962, Poloka debuted in art cinema, filming the film "Kapron networks" with Levan Schengelia. In 1966, the director put on the story Grigory Belykh and L. Panteleev the famous painting “Republic of Skid”.
In 1967–68, Poloka worked on the film "Intervention" with the participation of Vladimir Vysotsky, Sergey Yursky, Olga Aroseva, Valeria. Zolotukhina. The film, shot in the style of comedies Buff of the twenties, did not like the cinematic authorities and was released only in 1989.
Subsequently, the director worked in various genres: among his films, the adventure picture “One of us” (1971), the comedy “Line alone” (1973), the melodrama “Two Voices” (1980), the criminal comedy “Was Carotin?” (1989), awarded the Golden coin of the Vatican.
In addition, Gennady Polok starred in films as an actor.
