The wardrobe of the deceased Princess of Wales is coming from a hammer. Catherine Walker costume is estimated at 80 thousand dollars
In Los Angeles, a two-day auction takes place in the Julien's auction house , at which dresses of the deceased British Princess Diana. The popularity of Diana around the world does not decrease and after 17 years from the date of its tragic death, and the upcoming auction cause global interest.
The auction, at which five dresses and costumes of Princess Diana are sold , takes place as part of a series of auctions of Julien's under the name "Icon and Idols." During the life of Princess, Wales Diana was one of the "icons" of the international world of fashion and glamor. The beauty and elegance of the ex -wife of the heir to the British throne gained very popularity around the world, and the intrigues associated with her unsuccessful marriage, and the tragic death in a car disaster in Paris in August 1997, which gave rise to speculation, turned her into a mythical and legendary figure. Hence the great interest in the auction.
Dresses and costumes that the princess wore and in which she are captured in numerous photographs are displayed for sale. First of all, these are two silk dresses of the famous British designer Katherine Walker, who dressed Diana for 16 years - from the time of marriage in 1981 to death. In the end, Walker became a close friend of the princess. A preliminary assessment of Katherine Walker work dresses ranges from 60 thousand to 80 thousand dollars. Three other dresses belong to no less eminent British designers: Caroline Charles and Zandre Roads. Among them stands out an evening golden shade of a silk dress of the work of Zandra Ruds; Its catalog esthemite is 80-100 thousand dollars.

The leading expert of the Julien's Auction House Martin Nolan tells about the history of the appearance of these dresses at an interview with Radio Radio.
- Initially, the dresses were sold at auction by Princess Diana herself in June 1997. This was done at the request of her eldest son, Prince William, who was 15 years old at that time. The prince wanted to collect money in this way for a charity society, the cartridge of which he was. This society assisted patients with cancer and AIDS. Unfortunately, two months after this auction, Princess Diana died tragically. Then all the dresses that were in excellent condition were in bulk by a lady who for 17 years was their owner. Dresses were stored in perfect conditions and are in excellent condition. And now their owner decided to sell these precious things. I do not exclude the possibility that one of the museums can buy dresses, since Princess Diana is still unusually popular. People are attracted to everything related to her name, and if these dresses get to the museum, they could attract additional visitors to him.
- Is it possible to say that the attractiveness of these dresses is caused not only by what their princess Diana wore, but also by the fact that they themselves are works of high fashion and have aesthetic value?
All these things really are samples of high fashion and first -class tailor art
- Yes, sure. If you look at these dresses, you cannot but note their wonderful stylish classic design, which allows them to remain fashionable at all times. Part of the dresses was sewn in 1982 and 1983, the other part is in 1993 and 1997; It would seem that many years ago, but they remain absolutely modern and fashionable. And this can be called the style of Princess Diana and her favorite designers Katherine Walker and Caroline Charles. A suitable style of a costume and dresses that were a different style, a designer of which was Zandra Ruds. All these things really are samples of high fashion and first -class tailor art.
- How popular is Princess Diana in modern America?
- The Americans adore Princess Diana. We were heartbroken in America when she died very young tragically. The Americans are of great interest to her children - princes William and Harry. A special love is caused by the married couple of William and Katherine. This is the main legacy of Princess Diana. We welcome the visit of William and Kate to New York, where they will arrive on December 7-the day after the completion of our auction in Los Angeles.
- How do you explain the fact that the British monarchy is so popular in republican America?
Buyers from Russia are especially interested in Hollywood glamor and the cult of Hollywood movie stars
- You see, the Americans are primarily attracted by a fabulous aura surrounding kings and princes and their lifestyle. This interest is rooted in childhood of many Americans. And the history of our country is closely connected with the United Kingdom. Many Americans were never in England, they did not see the Buckingham Palace, but nevertheless they are familiar with the life of the royal family. They are especially attracted by this whole official royal protocol and beauty of rituals and customs associated with the monarchy.
- Do you expect buyers from Russia?
- At our auctions, customers from Russia are traditionally present. Among them are many lovers of memorial things related to celebrities of cinema and music. They are especially interested in the Hollywood glamor and the cult of Hollywood movie stars. However, the British royal family is also of no less interest in them. Usually these are very wealthy people from Russia and Ukraine, and we hope that they will take part in this auction.
- You have vast experience in organizing and conducting auctions, and you can surely predict the results of trading ...
- I believe that we will be able to help out at this auction at least five hundred thousand dollars. This is a lot of money for five dresses. My confidence is based on both the collective value of these five lots and the previous experience of conducting similar auctions. Interest in this auction is huge. I judge by the intensity with which our website is visited. Moreover, people from various countries are interested in auction. A large number of buyers outside America will probably participate in it by phone. And although the auction is held in Los Angeles, it causes global interest, ”said Martin Nolan, a leading expert at the Julien's auction house.
