The company "Yandex" acquired from the Runa Capital investment fund Metabar, developing the Advisor Service, which helps users make purchases in online stores, the newspaper Vedomosti writes with reference to the message of the Fund. The representative of Yandex confirmed the information about the committed transaction, which noted that the purchase cost the company of several million dollars. According to another source, the amount of the transaction did not exceed five million dollars.
The "Advisor" is an extension for a browser that analyzes the viewed page of the online store and tells where you can buy the same product cheaper. As the founder of Metabara Mikhail Ushakov said, the service uses prices on prices from Yandex.Market, which is then shared by the revenue for clicks.
"In 2011, the Runa Capital Foundation invested a million dollars in Metabar at the stage of ideas (because of this, the share of the fund exceeded 50%) and now the deal brought a multiple return of investment," said the representative of the Lilian Peretenava fund. She also clarified that in addition to Runa Capital, no one was invested in the project and it developed on its own expense.
According to Alexander Feoktistov, the head of the Yandex.Market marketing group, the company considered two options: to develop a service similar to the "adviser" independently or buy one of the players. The main argument in favor of the purchase was saving time, since the company did not want to spend resources on development.
Feoktistov noted that now Yandex received not only a finished product, but also a team that will continue to develop it inside the company.
Note that in recent years, Yandex has acquired several different companies and services at once. So, in June, the company bought Auto.ru portal , in September, Yandex's ownership went on the Adfox platform and the PRICELABS service , which allows you to manage bets and analyze the effectiveness of placing goods on Yandex.Market.
