The hacker who extorted $1,000 from Oleg Tinkov, the founder of Tinkoff Credit Systems, for stopping a DDoS attack, was fined 12 million rubles. At today's rate, the hacker was fined more than $210,000.
In addition, he was sentenced to two and a half years of probation. He was convicted under articles "Extortion" (163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and "Creation of malicious computer programs" (273 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
As employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs managed to establish, the hacker was a resident of the city of Togliatti, a 19-year-old student of the Faculty of Information Security (which university is not specified). He was arrested in July.
The hacker acted on behalf of the Pump Water Reboot group. He organized attacks not only on the Tinkov bank, but also on the Habrahabr, Rutreker and others websites. According to the Pump Water Reboot tweet, the attacks continued from March 26 to April 14, 2014.
During the search at his place of residence, computer equipment, mobile phones, data carriers and other items indicative of illegal activities were found and confiscated.
