Leviathan entered the Oscar Short List

Today, December 19, a short list of nine films applying for an Oscar prize in the category “Best Film Language” was announced. One of them is Leviathan Andrei Zvyagintsev.

As Interfax reports, the short list includes:

• Russia is Leviathan, dir. Andrey Zvyagintsev;
• Argentina - “Wild stories” (Relatos Salvajes / Wild Tales), dir. Damian Sifron;
• Estonia - "Mandarins" (Mandariinid / Tangerines) dir. Zaza Urushadze;
• Georgia is “corn island”, dir. Georges Ovashvili;
• Mauritania - Timbuktu (Timbuktu), dir. Aberrahman Sissako;
• The Netherlands are “accused”, dir. Paula van der l;
• Poland - "Ida" (IDA), dir. Pavel Pavlikovsky;
• Sweden- "force majeure" (Turist / Force Majeure), dir. Ruben Estlund;
• Venezuela - “Liberator” (Libertador / The Liberator), dir. Alberto Arvel.

The last stage of selection of nominees in the category "Best Film in a Foreign Language" will be held from January 9 to 11. Special committees in New York, Los Angeles and London will choose five nominant films, which will be announced on January 15.

The ceremony of presenting the prizes of the American film academy will be held on February 22.
