In the United States, a jury on charges of bodily harm to his wife will be defender of the Los Angeles Kings Hockey team, Russian Vyacheslav Voinov. This decision this week at preliminary hearings in the state of California was made by the judge. This is not the first case this year in the United States when accusations of home violence are brought by professional athletes.

What happened between Vyacheslav Voynov and his wife Marta Varlamova late in the evening of October 19 is not known exactly. There are no witnesses of the incident. In addition to the spouses, only the seven -year -old daughter of Varlamova, who was sleeping, was in their house. It is reliable, and this is stated in the police protocol, it is known that at 23 hours 25 minutes the local police received a call. The calling or calling reported that they heard from the house where they live wars and Varlamov, screams are heard, and that they suggest that there is "something something was wrong."

Arriving at the address, the police in the house did not find anyone and left. A one and a half later the police entered another call. This time they called from the hospital, the employees of which reported that the young woman with traces of beating was brought to the emergency department and that doctors suspect that she could be a victim of domestic violence. Martha Varlamov turned out to be this woman, and she arrived at the hospital, accompanied by her husband Vyacheslav Voinov.

As a police officer Gregory Whist, who was talking with Varlamova in the hospital, called there as a witness, the woman complained that her husband beat her. According to the weekend, Varlamov said that Voinov hit her in the face several times, strangled her, beat her feet, and then pushed her onto the TV. In the fall of Varlamov, she broke her face, as a result of which the doctors had to impose eight seams to her. According to the policeman, when examining the house of Voinov, he found traces of blood in the bedroom. Based on the testimony of Varlamova and the inspection of the house, the police arrested a hockey player on charges of bodily harm. He was kept in a police station all night, and in the morning they released $ 50 thousand on bail.

On the same day, the National Hockey League decided to remove Voinov from games and training during the investigation of the incident-on the basis of Article 18-A.5 of the collective agreement between the NHL and the trade union of players, which says that the League reserves the right to remove the player if it considers that his participation in the League can adversely affect its interests and reputation. The leadership of Los Angeles Kings was forced to agree with the League's opinion. However, a few days later, the chief manager of the team Din Lombardi allowed Voinov to go out on the ice during training, considering that it would be useful to maintain the spirit of the players. The league reaction was immediate: the club was fined 100 thousand dollars.

The irony of the fate of wars appeared in training on December 2 - on the day when the US Congress was heard on the problem of domestic violence among professional athletes. These hearings were connected with a number of sensational stories, in each of which the players of the National Football League were accused of beating wives and friends. The heads of the four main professional sports leagues of the United States - football, baseball, basketball and hockey were invited to the hearings. According to Jessica Berman, Vice President of the NHL, the strictest rules of discipline are in the league regarding the behavior of players outside the site, and, if necessary, players experiencing difficulties in their personal life are offered services of consultants and psychologists.

The NHL management draws attention to the fact that, in comparison with other professional sports, hockey players in the United States have rarely been in the center of scandals of this kind. The last history of this kind in the NHL - before the incident with Voinov - was also a business related to the Russian hockey player. In 2012, the goalkeeper of the Colorado Avalansche team was arrested on charges of beating his wife. But the case did not reach the court due to the lack of evidence. In the case of Voinov, the judge, who was presiding at preliminary hearings, came to the conclusion that there is enough reason to transfer this case to the jury. When exactly the process begins, it is unknown.

Meanwhile, Martha Varlamova changed the testimony and asks not to attract her husband to the court. She sent a letter to the prosecutor’s office in which she claims that she herself was the culprit of the quarrel with her husband, that he did not beat her at all, but, on the contrary, tried to calm her and that she hit her face on the TV by chance. Martha Varlamova also claims that in the hospital, where she talked with the police, she was misunderstood, since she speaks poorly in English.
