HRC expert Sergei Strilchenko was beaten in St. Petersburg

In St. Petersburg, two unknown persons beat up an expert of the "Soldiers' Mothers of St. Petersburg" and the standing commission on military-civilian relations of the Human Rights Council Sergei Strilchenko.

Alexander Peredruk, a spokesman for the St. Petersburg branch of Soldiers' Mothers , told ZAKS.ru that the attack took place this morning. At the entrance to the Mariinsky hospital, the human rights activist was attacked by two people in orange construction vests. Strilchenko was thrown to the ground and beaten with pieces of rebar, but he managed to get up and run to the clinic building, where he was diagnosed with a head injury, lacerations and about 20 hematomas.

The attackers did not steal anything from Strilchenko, so he connected the incident with his professional activities. At the same time, Peredruk found it difficult to say what specific case the attack was connected with. Strilchenko had not received any threats before.

Sergei Strilchenko is investigating corruption in the military registration and enlistment offices, fighting against the purchase of military tickets. The expert cooperates with the "Soldiers' Mothers" as an independent expert in case of illegal conscription.
