The editor of the Dutch edition of AndroidWorld, Sander Tuit, published screenshots of the new user interface of the WhatsApp messenger with a voice call function. Rumors about their impending appearance in the application have been circulating for more than a year, but until now the update has been constantly postponed.

Judging by the images in AndroidWorld, WhatsApp voice calls will support the ability to talk through a wireless headset, the option to answer the call with one of the standard text messages, and the ability to record and save the conversation in the phone's memory.

WhatsApp co-founder and CEO Jan Koum previously announced plans to introduce voice calls to the messenger in the second half of 2014. Then it was decided to postpone the update to the beginning of 2015. Kum associated the postponement with technical difficulties in implementing the option and, in particular, with the need to refine noise reduction technologies when using microphones built into smartphones.
