The Moscow City Court sentenced one of the participants in the case of Oleg Sentsov

As Mediazona reports , the Moscow City Court sentenced Gennady Afanasyev, who is involved in the case of the so-called Crimean terrorists, to seven years in prison. Director Oleg Sentsov, anti-fascist Alexander Kolchenko, and historian Alexey Chirniy are also involved in this case.

The Mediazona website says that they were informed about the verdict in the Lefortovo District Court of Moscow. The investigator also announced the separation of Afanasyev’s criminal case into separate proceedings during a meeting to extend the arrest of Alexander Kolchenko, which is taking place at these minutes.

Afanasyev, Sentsov, Kolchenko and Chirniy were detained by FSB operatives in Simferopol in May of this year. Then they were all transported to Moscow. Chirniy and Afanasyev confessed after their arrest, Sentsov completely denies his guilt, and Kolchenko also denies involvement in terrorism.

According to the investigation, Afanasyev was part of the group of Oleg Sentsov, who in April 2014 created a “terrorist community” in Simferopol, which aimed to “influence decisions made by government bodies of the Russian Federation on the withdrawal of the Republic of Crimea from its composition” and acted on the instructions of the Ukrainian organization "Right Sector". Chirniy, Kolchenko, Afanasiev and “other unidentified persons,” allegedly at the direction of Sentsov, in April 2014, set fire to the building of the “Russian Community of Crimea” and the local branch of “United Russia”, after which Chirniy and Afanasiev purchased homemade explosive devices in order to carry out the attack on May 9. Simferopol two terrorist attacks - blowing up the Lenin monument near the station square and the Eternal Flame memorial. However, the explosion did not occur due to the fact that both of them were detained.
