2014 began with the holidays on the Maidan. It was very alarming, we all understood that the authorities at any moment would be ready to interrupt this Christmas lull and begin to deal with the protesters. And indeed, not even a few days had passed - and Kyiv was flooded with a specially laid hooligan, the abductions, beating and killing of activists began - and this whole nightmare continued until the execution of the "heavenly hundreds".
So Yanukovych, even then, as an old glove, sunk into Putin’s hand, took revenge on people who took to the streets of the Ukrainian capital and other cities of our country to protect the elementary sense of self -esteem. A feeling that requires law enforcement officers to protect the right, and not beat people. The feeling that requires the authorities to fulfill the laws, and not to encourage lawlessness. A feeling that does not allow you to come to terms with the life of a disenfranchised inhabitant of a thieves' brothel, only masking under the state.
And the year ended with a manger - a hastily adopted sentence, blocked by an area, sticky, almost physically felt by a feeling of fear, which each time covers the Kremlin crooks when they are faced with people. With the people. And the point, in the end, is not in Navalny - as in Kyiv it was not in European integration. And the point is not even the number of people - although I tell you, a million free people are better than several dozen, hundreds and even thousands. The point is precisely this sense of self -esteem. If at least someone has it, then the country has a chance to recover.
Ukraine, despite all the hardships, hardships, sacrifices and difficulties in the modernization of the state, has turned into a country of free people this year. And Russia is still ill, very sick. All the same small crooks instead of power. All the same "gopniks" instead of police officers. All the same subjects instead of citizens. All the same gangster stitch instead of the state.
But the fact that 2014 began with the Maidan, and ends with a playwell, inspires hope for the future. The future in which both of our countries will be free. The future in which we will no longer be enemies, but will become friendly neighbors. The future in which the Ukrainian tourist will be happy in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sochi, and the Russian guest will be in Kyiv, Lviv and Sevastopol. After all, it is better to come to visit the tanks. After all, it is better to earn than steal. After all, living thanks to your own work is better than due to oil. After all, to equip your own country is better than spit on it and destroy foreign states.
Ukrainians already understood this in the past year. And the Russians can simply go to the square - the main, the area of freedom, human dignity and responsibility that they have not yet found.
And already not to leave her anywhere.
