The United States applied the right of a veto on the UN Security Council resolution on the recognition of Palestine's independence, Reuters reports. The draft resolution on the recognition of the state of Palestine was submitted to the UN Security Council on December 17.

The draft resolution provided for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Palestinian territories by 2017.

"The draft resolution is not accepted due to the fact that a sufficient number of votes were not received," the representative of the child, presiding in the SB in December, said.

The constant representative of Russia at the UN and the UN Security Council Vitaly Churkin said that Russia regrets the decision not to make a resolution on the security council, RIA Novosti reports. "The Russian Federation regrets that the UN Security Council failed to adopt the draft resolution put to the vote," Churkin said.

In November, Russia promised to support the draft resolution.

The US State Department on December 29 said he did not approve of the draft resolution, as he considers it unconstructive. According to the American authorities, the resolution will not ensure the safety of Israeli citizens.

The state of Palestine was proclaimed in November 1988 in Algeria. De facto recognition of the Palestinian state in 2012 approved the UN General Assembly.
