As a result of the conflict in the east of Ukraine, over 4700 people have died since April 2014, more than 10 thousand were injured. This was reported on the official Twitter of the UN.
According to the UN, the number of internally displaced persons in Ukraine exceeds 610 thousand. Another 594 thousand fled to neighboring countries, mainly to Russia.
In January, the UN Security Council may hold a meeting in Ukraine at the request of delegations of Great Britain and Lithuania. This was stated by the permanent representative of Chile under the World Organization, Christian Barros Mele, in January the acting chairman of the Security Council.
"The last time the UN Security Council discussed the situation in Ukraine as part of an open meeting on November 12, 2014," the UN Twitter said.
Then the US Plenipotentiary Representative to the UN Samantha Power said that the main cause of the conflict in the east of Ukraine was the gross violation of Russia in the territorial integrity of this country.
“The situation is evolving, but the indigenous causes of the conflict remain unchanged - this is a gross violation by Russia of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Again and again, Russia takes on obligations, and then does not fulfill them, and also offers an explanation at the meetings of this council, which it itself understands, and they do not correspond to the truth,” Pauer said.
The diplomat recalled that "in Minsk, everyone pledged to immediately end fire, but instead of doing this, the separatists took advantage of the pause in these hostilities, trying to expand their territory."
Power also emphasized that Ukraine at the same time adhered to the principles of ceasefire.
