Former deputy head of Samara Alexander Karpushkin left the mayor’s office due to the expiration of the contract, the administration’s press service told Kommersant.

“On December 22, Alexander Karpushkin was fired after Oleg Fursov took office as head of the Samara administration due to the expiration of the contract,” the press service told Kommersant.

In the team of the former head of Samara, Dmitry Azarov, Mr. Karpushkin served as deputy mayor. From October 10 to November 24, 2014, in connection with the departure of Mr. Azarov to the Federation Council, he served as mayor of Samara. From November 25, 2014, he served as acting head of administration until the contract was concluded with the city manager.

Let us remind you that the last popularly elected mayor of Samara, Dmitry Azarov, left his post in connection with his departure to the Federation Council of the Russian Federation. At the end of September, a new law on the procedure for electing the mayor of Samara was approved. According to this law, the mayor of the city is elected from among the deputies and is given the powers of the speaker of the city duma, and the head of the administration (city manager) is appointed and works under a contract.

At the end of November, the Chairman of the City Duma, Alexander Fetisov, was elected head of Samara. The competition for the position of city manager was announced on November 24. A special commission, and then city Duma deputies unanimously elected Oleg Fursov as the new head of the Samara administration.
