Bashkiria asked for a share in Bashneft

The head of Bashkiria, Rustem Khamitov, asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to transfer part of the shares of Bashneft to the ownership of the republic. Khamitov's letter to the head of state notes that the oil company provides about a third of the revenues to the regional budget, and the transfer of a stake in the company to the republic would make it possible to receive additional funds from dividends.

Putin instructed the government to work out the issue of transferring part of Bashneft's shares to Bashkiria. What share can be discussed is not specified. The profile departments have until January 15 to submit their feedback on this issue, its final decision is expected before the end of the month.

Residents of the republic "ardently supported" the return of Bashneft to state ownership, the head of Bashkiria said, citing numerous letters from citizens expressing hope for increased transparency and efficiency of the company's activities in connection with the change of ownership.

At the end of October 2014, the Moscow Arbitration Court decided to transfer to the state the Bashneft shares owned by AFK Sistema. The court held that the privatization of the assets was illegal.
The prosecutor's office argued that the enterprises of the Bashkir fuel and energy complex, which later became part of Bashneft, belonged to the federal authorities and were privatized without their consent. Sistema claimed that the assets were owned by the republic, not the federal center.
In September 2014, the head of AFK Sistema, Vladimir Yevtushenkov, was placed under house arrest on charges of money laundering. The investigation called him the organizer of the scheme that allowed Sistema to get the enterprises of the Bashkir fuel and energy complex.
In mid-December, Yevtushenkov was released. At a press conference on December 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the charges against the businessman were dropped. The businessman's lawyer Alexander Gofshtein then said that he did not know anything about this.
