Competition for young pop singers "New Wave" in 2015 will be held in Sochi. According to the Governor of the Krasnodar Territory Alexander Tkachev, holding the competition in Sochi will fill hotels and create new jobs.
The governor stressed that the main candidate cities, apart from Sochi, were Kaliningrad and Yalta. The organizers could not make a choice for a long time, but in the end they settled on the Olympic capital.
Administration of the Krasnodar Territory
- The New Wave contest has been held since 2002 in the Latvian city of Jurmala on the Baltic coast. Over the years, the Smash! group, Dima Bilan, Irina Dubtsova and other popular pop singers took part in the competition.
- In the summer of 2014, the Latvian Foreign Ministry decided to ban Russian musicians Oleg Gazmanov, Iosif Kobzon and Valeria from entering the country in connection with their statements on the conflict in southeastern Ukraine. Shortly thereafter, it became known that the organizers of the New Wave were planning to move the competition from Jurmala.
