The board of directors of the United Aircraft Corporation ( UAC ) will consider the issue of terminating the powers of the corporation's president Mikhail Pogosyan on January 16. UAC itself reported this today. "The decision to convene the board of directors was made by the corporation's shareholders," a company representative told Interfax, referring the question about the reasons for the convocation to the government.

According to the manager of one of the UAC enterprises, the issue of replacing Pogosyan will be resolved, and the most likely candidate for president of the state company is the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade for Aviation Industry Issues, Yuri Slyusar.

Rumors of Pogosyan's resignation have been circulating since the end of last year, when IHS Jane's Kiev correspondent Ruben Johnson, citing Russian sources, reported that the UAC president had allegedly submitted his resignation. The UAC press service then denied this information.

Mikhail Pogosyan has been the President of UAC since February 2011. At that time, a five-year contract was signed with him. Mikhail Pogosyan was born in 1956 in Moscow. He graduated from the aircraft manufacturing department of the Moscow Aviation Institute and was sent to work at the Moscow Machine-Building Plant named after P. O. Sukhoi (now JSC Sukhoi Design Bureau).

Pogosyan's achievements as UAC president include organizing serial production and promoting the Russian regional aircraft Sukhoi Superjet on domestic and foreign markets. According to Pogosyan's own estimates, the total investment in the Superjet project was about $2 billion: 13% were his own investments, 20% were financed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and 67% were commercial loans. About $1.2 billion was spent directly on development.
