Leviathan is nominated for Oscar

The film "Leviathan" of the Russian director Andrei Zvyagintsev is included in the nominee for the Awards of the American Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences "Oscar" in the category "Best Film in a Foreign Language".

It is reported by RIA Novosti . The Oscar award ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on February 22.

The last Russian film, nominated for Oscar, was in 2007 the picture of Nikita Mikhalkov “12”. In the 1990s, the “thief” Pavel Chukhrai and the “Caucasian captive” by Sergey Bodrov, as well as “Urga” and “Tired of the Sun” by Mikhalkov, were nominated for the Oscar.

In 1994, the film “Burnt by the Sun” for the fourth time in the history of the cinema of the USSR and Russia won the American Film Academy Award.

The world premiere of Leviathan took place at the 67th Cannes Festival, where Zvyagintseva’s painting received a prize for the best script, later it was recognized as the best film at several international film festivals.

On January 11, Leviathan became the first Russian winner of the Golod Globe Association of the Foreign Press of the Foreign Press Association.
