An opposition rally “For Honest Power” took place on the Champ de Mars in St. Petersburg. About 1 thousand people took part in it. The rally participants came out in support of the brothers Alexei and Oleg Navalny, who were convicted at the end of December in the Yves Rocher case.

Before the start of the action, unknown young people installed a propaganda cube on the Champ de Mars with accusations against the Navalny brothers, as well as against State Duma deputy Ilya Ponomarev and former deputy Gennady Gudkov. After a complaint from the rally organizers, the police took away the cube.

The city administration twice refused to approve the rally, explaining that the entire territory of the Champ de Mars would be occupied by an action in support of the homeless and orphans. However, in reality, there was no noticeable action on this topic on the Champs of Mars.

Supporters of Alexei Navalny initially planned mass rallies in Moscow and St. Petersburg for January 15, deciding to coincide with the day of the verdict in the Yves Rocher case. However, the court postponed the announcement of the verdict to December 30. The Navalny brothers were found guilty of fraud. Alexey received a 3.5 year suspended sentence, Oleg received the same real sentence.
After the verdict was announced on December 30, uncoordinated rallies in support of Navalny took place in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The rally in Moscow ended with mass arrests; no serious incidents occurred in St. Petersburg.
Alexei Navalny called on his supporters, instead of rallies on January 15, to start preparing a large-scale action in Moscow and other Russian cities, tentatively scheduled for the second half of February.
