Saratov civil activist Andrei Kalashnikov said that he was called to the police in connection with a one-man picket he held on 15 January. “They called me from the city police and asked me to come to them to carry out some actions,” Kalashnikov is quoted by the Versiya-Saratov news agency . - As the police explained, they received a statement from the deputy head of the administration, Yevgeny Chekulaev, about my violation of the rules for holding a one-man picket. Allegedly, there was no object of picketing.”

On January 15, Kalashnikov came out with a picket in support of Saratov journalists who were repeatedly attacked for their professional activities. Two days earlier, Sergei Vilkov, a journalist from the Public Opinion publication, was beaten up in the courtyard of his house by two unknown persons. Less than six months earlier, a journalist from the same magazine, Alexander Krutov, was attacked. Also, the purpose of the picket was to support the Muscovites, who spoke out that evening against the verdict on the brothers Alexei and Oleg Navalny. Kalashnikov also expressed support for the Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko, who is in a Russian prison.

Yevgeny Chekulaev, who filed a complaint against a civil activist with the police, is the deputy head of the Saratov administration for public and interethnic relations. Previously, he headed the Center for Combating Extremism of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Saratov Region.
