The arrest period for Krasnodar activist Sergei Titarenko has been extended

The Oktyabrsky District Court of Krasnodar extended the arrest period for activist Sergei Titarenko until March 25.

The investigation insisted on extending Titarenko’s arrest. The decision to satisfy the relevant petition was made by judge Lyudmila Yakimenko, the Caucasian Knot reports with reference to the activist’s lawyer Marina Dubrovina.

The court session was interrupted for one hour due to the lack of a resolution to conduct a linguistic examination , which was not included in the case.

According to Alexander Savelyev, an activist of the “Environmental Watch for the North Caucasus”, before the start of the court hearing, Sergei Titarenko told the activists and the lawyer that he was being subjected to psychological and physical pressure in the Krasnodar pre-trial detention center.

“Sergei Titarenko stated that he is kept in the same cell with criminals who are “educating” him, and recently there was a fight between them. According to Titarenko, the pre-trial detention center employees do not pay attention to his complaints,” Savelyev said.

Krasnodar activists intend to file a complaint with the Public Monitoring Commission of the Krasnodar Territory so that they check the conditions of detention of Sergei Titarenko.

Sergei Titarenko was arrested by FSB officers on September 26. He was charged under two articles - Part 2 of Article 280 (public calls for extremist activities committed on the Internet) and Part 2 of Article 282.1 (participation in an extremist community). According to investigators, Titarenko distributed public “calls for a violent change in the foundations of the constitutional system of the Russian Federation” on the Internet. The criminal case is being investigated by the investigative department of the FSB of Russia in the Krasnodar Territory.

In the so-called case of the federalization of Kuban, four more Krasnodar activists - Daria Polyudova, Pyotr Lyubchenkov, Vyacheslav Martynov and Andrei Chernyshev - were also brought to criminal liability under articles of disseminating on the Internet calls for extremist activities and violating the integrity of the Russian Federation.

Today, Daria Polyudova’s arrest period was also extended until February 28.
