Fedor Bondarchuk, Nikita Mikhalkov, Karen Shakhnazarov, Sergey Miroshnichenko, Oleg Tabakov and Vladimir Khotinenko wrote a letter to Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev with a request to allow the use of obscene vocabulary in films.

The authors of the letter ask Medhedv “to give an order to amend the current legislation, which provides for the possibility of issuing a rolling certificate with the age limit of“ 18+ ”for films that, in order to implement an artistic plan, can contain obscene expressions”, TASS reports.

According to the Law “On State Support of Cinematography of the Russian Federation”, the film does not give a rolling certificate if it contains obscene abuse. “The indicated norm leads to the impossibility of public demonstration of cinematographic works that have high artistic virtues, but at the same time realistically demonstrating negative manifestations of social life, including the use by the heroes of films of obsceneity,” the directors write.

They note that “obscene abuse in itself is part of the intangible cultural heritage and is traditionally used and is used in artistic works for various purposes, which include the truthfulness of the images of heroes, the strengthening of the emotional coloring of events occurring on the screen, and so on.”

“In cases where he [mat] is justified by the psychological state of the hero or conveys the shades of character necessary for the dramaturgy, the existing ban is excessive and significantly implements the possibilities of the artistic implementation of the author’s intent and the perception of artistic works by adult citizens of the Russian Federation,” the letter said.

PS according to Interfax , the head of the State Duma Committee on Culture, film director Stanislav Govorukhin (United Russia) spoke out against the abolition of obscene vocabulary in the cinema. “Such amendments did not enter the committee, and I hope they won’t go,” he said, adding that films with obscenities cannot be launched even with age -related restrictions.

The deputy head of the Culture Committee, film director Vladimir Bortko (Communist Party) supported the request of his colleagues: “Do not prohibit, it is possible to limit the rental.”
