A photographer from St. Petersburg Ksenia Yurkova created her own series on the basis of letters to her mother written between the 1960s and 1980s by her friends, parents and lovers. The Yurkova art project received the first grant from the international photo-online platform Gomma PhotoGraphy Grant and will soon be published as a book in English (the release is scheduled for March 1) .
I am a product of what has invested an outsider in me. The priority of parents, the automatism of a secondary educational school, love in university teachers. In my parents are their parents, their love and their blindness. And then deeper - everything is the same. Each artifact inherited from my tribal tribe built me. Everyone led to the inevitability of my appearance. Each line of the letter of my mother’s lover shouted her understanding of my future father. The method from the nasty. Everything came together at one point - in me. I took the suburbances from me.
Parents - with an effort, unsteady authority. Shine in phrases and gestures. If you want to hurt your neighbor, compare with the parent. The goal is in dissimilarity. Would not be reflected in their eyes. The final release is when they go away themselves. Then the vision that was taken at birth is gained.
These texts are letters to my mother. Different years, from about the 60s to the 80s. From friends, parents and lovers. I got the archive after her death. It was not customary to read letters in my family. Each generation asked for the subsequent correspondence to burn. But for some reason no one did it. Letters were stored in the drawer of the desk. I got it. Since childhood, I was extremely curious. I climbed into other people's envelopes. They scolded it for this. It became ashamed. Now it’s also embarrassing, but not as often and deep as before.
