The head of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Anne Brasseur, appealed to State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin to help in the speedy release of Nadezhda Savchenko, who is accused in Russia of involvement in the murder of two journalists near Luhansk. It is reported on Wednesday TASS.
“I kindly request that steps be taken to immediately release her under the Minsk Protocol or on humanitarian or other grounds,” Anne Brasseur said, adding that Savchenko’s health condition has deteriorated greatly due to the hunger strike. In a letter to Naryshkin, she, in particular, asked to release Savchenko in such a time that the pilot could be present on January 26 at the opening of the regular session of the Assembly.
According to the head of PACE, if Savchenko is not released, this situation "will continue to poison relations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine and put the life of a young woman at risk."
Recall that at the end of December last year, the Moscow City Court recognized the lawful extension of the arrest of Nadezhda Savchenko until February 13, 2015, despite the statement by the pilot's defense that lawyers have irrefutable evidence that Savchenko has an alibi. According to defender Ilya Novikov, the lawyers have documents at their disposal confirming that an hour before the shelling of journalists, the pilot was captured by the Zarya battalion.
