The Russian government is not going to close the Wikipedia Internet Encyclopedia, Alexei Volin, deputy minister of communications and mass communications, said on Thursday.

Earlier, the deputy head of the Rosobrnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision of Education) Alexander Biserov spoke out for the ban on Wikipedia, since, in his opinion, the number of errors that this resource contains “rolls over”.

As explained by Alexei Volin, it is about the fact that "Wikipedia" should not use schoolchildren and students when performing educational tasks. “Wikipedia” is a good and interesting project created by amateurs, but it is not able to replace a professional encyclopedia, ”the deputy minister of communication added.

The idea of prohibiting the Internet encyclopedia was criticized by human rights activist Lyudmila Alekseev. In an interview with Interfax, she noted that she herself does not use Wikipedia, "since this resource is not safe from errors." “But it is not at all necessary to ban it: who does not like it, they can simply not use it,” the human rights activist believes.

Rosobrnadzor spokesman Sergei Shatunov said that Biserov’s words should be perceived "adequately, guided by a sense of humor and common sense."
