Due to financial difficulties, an increase in student scholarships planned for the summer of 2015 may not take place.
“I think not this year. Judging by the meeting in the Ministry of Finance - on the contrary, we hardly hold the scholarship fund, ”a source in the leadership of one of the largest Russian universities told Interfax.
On January 12, it became known that the Ministry of Education and Science prepared changes in the procedure for the formation of a scholarship fund at the expense of the federal budget. The draft document passed public discussion and was sent for approval to the ministry and departments.
Already in July 2015, a scholarship fund for students who have estimates “excellent” and “good” was planned to be raised by 18%, and the fund for the payment of state academic and state social scholarships for special achievements - by 20%.
In December, the deputy head of the Ministry of Education and Science Alexander Povalko said that in 2015, Russian universities were waiting for a significant reduction in funding, emphasizing that the scholarships and wages of university workers will not be reduced. Nevertheless, shortly before the New Year, the Minister of Education Dmitry Livanov said that the Ministry of Education and Science invited the government to index the scholarship fund for the next year. An increase in scholarships was approximately planned for September 1, 2015.
