The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) confirmed that he was negotiating with Gazprom on the extension of a sponsorship agreement. This was reported by TASS with reference to the statement of the organization.
“At present, we are in the stage of sales of all the television and sponsorship rights of the Champions League and the Europa League for the 2015-2018 seasons,” said UEFA. “This process also includes discussion with current partners, including Gazprom. But we adhere to the practice not to make public comments on the negotiations until the transaction is concluded.”
Earlier, a source in Gazprom told TASS that negotiations were underway to extend the sponsorship agreement until 2018.
The Russian company became the official sponsor of the most prestigious club football tournament in Europe in 2012. The current contract expires this year.
In addition to the Champions League, Gazprom is a title sponsor of three football clubs: St. Petersburg Zenit, German Schalke, Serbian Zvens Stars, as well as an official global energy partner of the English Chelsea. With the last two clubs, contracts expire this year.
