Singer Demis Roussos dies

Greek singer Demis Roussos has died at the age of 69 in Athens. This was reported to the BBC at the Hygiea Hospital.

Roussos' daughter Emily confirmed the artist's death, as his friend, journalist Nikos Aliagas, wrote on Twitter, reports Le Figaro.

The artist died on the night of Saturday to Sunday at his home in Athens. The French edition writes that Roussos was ill with cancer of the stomach, pancreas and liver.

Demis Roussos (real name Artemios Venturis Roussos) was born on June 15, 1946 in Alexandria. In the mid-1950s, his family moved to Greece. Prior to starting his solo career, Roussos played bass in Aphrodite's Child. After the military coup in Greece, the ensemble moved to Paris. In 1971, Roussos began his solo career. His first hit album was Forever & Ever in 1973. Roussos has sold over 60 million records throughout his career. The last album of the singer was released in 2009.
