The Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe decided to grant international immunity to the Ukrainian pilot and deputy Nadezhda Savchenko as a member of the permanent delegation of the Verkhovna Rada. Now Russia is obliged to release the political prisoner, PACE President Anne Brasseur said at a press conference in Strasbourg, reports . Ukrayinska Pravda
“PACE rules state that members of the assembly are subject to immunity. We all have not only immunity for the duration of the session, but we must also have the immunity required to attend the session. That is, the country must remove all restrictions for the deputy’s travel to the meeting,” Brasser explained. “Therefore, if one of the deputies is behind bars, he must be released by the government that holds him.” Formally, the decision has not yet been made, it must be approved by the procedural committee, the PACE President noted. However, she had no doubt that the Bureau's decision would be supported.
