Russia is trying to use Nadezhda Savchenko as a hostage

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) at a session in Strasbourg approved a resolution on the humanitarian situation of Ukrainian refugees and displaced persons. The PACE document contains, in particular, the requirement to free all Ukrainian prisoners of war, which include the pilot Nadezhda Savchenko. About the behavior of the Russian delegation in PACA "Daily Journal" was told by political scientist Arkady Dubnov:

The final decision of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe regarding the lifting of the restrictions imposed on the Russian delegation will be adopted on Thursday, January 29. And now there is no clarity regarding what the solution will be, whether the complete lifting of these sanctions will occur, the partial or everything will remain as it is. Unfortunately, it depends on the bargaining between the PACE leadership, the heads of delegations of different countries and the Russian representative office, headed by the State Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin.

But what happened on Monday and Tuesday is already making a disgusting impression. Russian deputies demonstrated a classic example of the behavior of the non-commissioned officer widow, who carved herself. This is a banal comparison, but it is difficult to choose another, observing how the position of delegates in the course of the discussion in accordance with the signals of the high authorities from Moscow changed and vilely changed. First, the lips of Alexei Pushkov, the head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said that the main counterpoint of the whole discussion is the issue of releasing the Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko, who has been in the Russian opinion for 7 months on charges of murdering two Russian journalists. Moreover, after she got into the pre -trial detention center, she was elected as a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the Fatherland party. In response to the harsh requirements of PACE to free Savchenko, since this is required by all the decisions of the European Council, our delegates answered that this is impossible, since she was suspected of a cruel crime. Following this, in the second half of Monday, they suddenly changed their minds and stated that release is possible if sanctions were lifted from the Russian representative office. And today the situation has changed again, and Sergey Naryshkin said that without a court decision it was impossible.

Most likely, Russian parliamentarians changed their minds due to the fact that they failed to achieve all the conditions set. Perhaps this is due to the protests of Ukrainian deputies, who considered such bargains unworthy. One way or another, but this situation itself suggests that Savchenko is considered by the Russian authorities no more than a hostage. And the trial has not yet been carried out specifically so that it was possible to profitably exchange it in case of appropriate conditions. As a result, all this looks so unworthy that it characterizes the “moral and moral appearance” not only of the Russian delegation, but of the entire Russian policy towards Ukraine. Lies, hypocrisy and complete neglect of natural human compassion. And Savchenko has been starving for the second month, and she is forcibly fed with vitamins - all this looks disgusting, regardless of the final decision of the Assembly on this issue.
