Working on this series, I thought about how history and memory are perceived with the help of images.
Each time, turning to the past, trying to remember something, we build a new image in our imagination, replacing and complementing the forgotten details with new ones.
By connecting photographic objects with natural elements, I create multilayer images that are a visual analogy of memory that eludes over time.
Black and white photographs mean another era, they are an image of the distant past, and flowers that just begin to wither, play a double role here-symbolize today and at the same time are a symbol of Vanitas .
Turning in my work to the events related to the revolution in Russia and the first wave of emigration that followed it, I present the story of each of these anonymous pictures and, knowing for sure that all these people are dead, creating a kind of epitaph to them, trying to rethink the gap and unwillingness of the repetition of these events in the future.
All the pictures that I used were bought on a flea market or in an antique store, I wanted to use their help to create an atmosphere of general, uncertain mourning in people unknown to me through a photograph that is traditionally appreciated for my claim for authenticity.
