In Moscow, the INION library was burning
On Friday evening, in the south-west of Moscow, the building of the Institute of Scientific Information on Public Sciences (INION RAS) caught fire. According to RIA Novosti, the library of the institute is on, the fire area was about 2 thousand quarter meters, the roof collapsed in the building on Nakhimovsky Prospekt.
The message about the fire was received at 22:09. 150 firefighters were busy in extinguishing. At midnight, the fire was localized.
INION is the largest scientific center in Russia in the field of social and humanities. Its fundamental library has 14.2 million storage units. Its fund has rare editions of the XVI - early XX centuries, documents in ancient, modern eastern, European and Russian languages. The library has the most complete collections of documents of the League of Nations, the UN and UNESCO, the US parliamentary reports (since 1789), England (since 1803), Italy (since 1897) and one of the largest collections of books in Slavic languages.
The library was founded in 1918 as a library of the Socialist Academy of Public Sciences (later - the Communist Academy). The library staff is 330 people, the total area is 30 thousand square meters.
