The Aidar volunteer battalion was disbanded by order of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The commander of the battalion, People's Deputy Sergei Melnichuk told about this to the Apostrophe.
“The battalion has already been disbanded three days ago. According to the documents, it no longer exists. At the same time, the Minister of Defense and the head of the General Staff say that they did not sign such an order. But documents have already come to the front line that such a unit did not exist, as well as the seal of the new unit, ”Melnichuk added.
He noticed that Aydara fighters intend to picket the military department, "so that the battalion continues to exist and protect the integrity of Ukraine."
At the same time, on Facebook, the unit of the report on the disbandment of the battalion was called a provocation.
Earlier, the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Viktor Muzhenko, stated that by the end of 2014 the battalion would be reorganized.
The Aidar battalion was created in May 2014 and participated in an armed confrontation with pro -Russian separatists in the Luhansk region. In June, the Russian Investigative Committee accused Melnichuk of involvement in the death of VGTRK journalists Igor Korneluk and Anton Voloshin, who fell under a mortar shelling near Lugansk. The Ukrainian pilot Arrested in Russia Nadezhda Savchenko, who was accused of complicity of murder, fought as part of the Aidar battalion. International observers called the unit among those that could be involved in abductions, murders and extortions.
