Google plans to create its own taxi service, which should become a competitor to the Uber application, Bloomberg reports , citing a source close to the board of directors of Uber on Tuesday, February 3.

The agency's interlocutor clarified that Google intends to develop an application that will eventually become part of the corporation's strategy to create self-driving cars. The company expects the technology to take up to five years to implement.

Chris Armson, a participant in the autopilot development project, explained that the company is thinking about how the new technology can benefit people in the future. According to the company's specialists, it is necessary to create a service that will allow a passenger to call a car, tell him the address to which he needs to be delivered, and the car itself will deliver this person to the place.

The agency clarifies that Uber employees already know about Google's plans and are extremely concerned about this, since such a large company does not have problems with financing and can become a technically complex competitor. Moreover, the Uber app for car and motorcycle drivers is based on Google Maps, which was developed by Google itself. Uber fears that it may lose access to this service, and its analogues - AOL, MapQuest, Apple Maps - are worse, the company believes.

Uber obtained screenshots of a test version of the service, which is used by some of the corporation's employees. According to Bloomberg, screenshots of Uber were provided by Google top manager David Drummond, who became a member of Uber's board of directors after Google Ventures invested $258 million in Uber in 2013.
