Harper Lee to release second novel
American writer Harper Lee, author of To Kill a Mockingbird, will release her second novel. The book will be released July 14 by Harper with a circulation of 2 million copies.
The work "Go Set a Watchman" was completed in the 1950s, but Harper Lee then did not publish it and, on the advice of the editor, wrote a new novel, which brought her worldwide fame. "Go Set a Watchman" tells about the grown-up Jean Louise Finch (Scout, in the translation of Nora Gal - Eyes), at the beginning of the action "To Kill a Mockingbird" she was 6 years old.
Harper Lee believed that the manuscript of her novel had not survived. However, the writer's lawyer, Tonja Carter, discovered it in the fall of 2014: the manuscript was found in a "safe place" (where exactly, is not specified), and it was attached to the typewritten version of To Kill a Mockingbird. Harper Lee said that for a long time she doubted whether it was worth publishing the book, but in the end she consulted with people she trusted, and they convinced her that the novel was worthy of publication.
The novel "Go Set a Watchman" is a sequel to "To Kill a Mockingbird", although it was written before it (English).
