
UN Secretary General Pan Hi Moon supported the proposal of the current chairman of the OSCE Ivitsa Dachich on the establishment of a temporary truce in the area of the Ukrainian city of Debaltseve to evacuate civilians, Lenta.ru reports with reference to the UN press service.
“The General Secretary is still seriously concerned about the situation in the east of Ukraine, in particular, the position of civilians who are without food and drink in the city of Debaltseve. He most decisively condemns indignant shelling and calls for both sides to immediately move the confrontation from densely populated areas,” the statement said.
Pan Gi Moon called for fire to immediately evacuate civilians, noting that this is possible only "through negotiations in the spirit of goodwill," and also noted the need to resume political dialogue. “The parties that signed the Minsk agreements and the entire international community must take responsibility to resolve the conflict,” said the UN Secretary General.
On Monday, the current chairman of the OSCE, the Foreign Minister of Serbia Ivitsa Dachich proposed to declare a three -day truce in the Debaltsev region to evacuate civilians. On February 4, the representative of the Ministry of Defense of the self -proclaimed "Donetsk People’s Republic" Eduard Basurin said that the DPR authorities turned to the Ukrainian side with the proposal to temporarily cease fire, but Kyiv put forward an "unacceptable condition."
Last week, the head of the Donetsk People's Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko, announced the capture of the militias of Uglegorsk. Thus, according to him, the militants were able to close the ring around the Debaltsev group of Ukrainian security forces.
In turn, the official representative of the press center of the anti-terrorist operation denied the fact of the environment. At the same time, he admitted that the situation in the area remains difficult.
An exacerbation of the conflict in eastern Ukraine occurred in mid -January amid the resumption of battles for Donetsk airport. It is reported that its territory is currently under the control of militants, but military operations spread to nearby settlements.
