Boris Ivanov was born in 1928 in Leningrad. He crawled out a craft school, and after serving in the army - the journalism department of Leningrad State University.

In 1965, the debut book of Boris Ivanov’s stories “The door remains open” was published. In 1968, for the authorship of a collective letter with a protest against the trial of Alexander Ginzburg, Yuri Galansky, Alexei Dobrovolsky and Vera Lashkova, he was expelled from the party and dismissed from work.

In June 1976, edited by Boris Ivanov, the first issue of the literary samizdat magazine "Clock" was released. Later, in 1978, the editors of this magazine established the award Andrei Bely . In 1983, Ivanov himself became the laureate of this award.

The writer was the initiator of the creation of the first partnership of unofficial writers - the club 81. Later, he organized a number of conferences and seminars on the problems of the history of the Leningrad ignorant literature. The compiler of the collection "Samizdat".
