German Chancellor Angela Merkel is not confident that today's talks in Moscow with French President Francois Hollande and Russian President Vladimir Putin will lead to a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine. Merkel said this on Friday before flying to Moscow, reports Reuters .

“The question of whether we will succeed in reaching a ceasefire agreement remains completely open. We don't know whether this will happen today or whether further negotiations will be required,” Merkel said.

According to her, it is also unknown whether the Moscow negotiations will be long or short, or whether they will be the last negotiations on this topic.

“We can only do what we must do to resolve the conflict and especially to stop the bloodshed,” the chancellor added.

She also noted that any decision on Ukraine should be focused on the Minsk plan, and emphasized that she would never resolve issues about the territorial integrity of the state without taking into account the opinion of its head.

The day before, Merkel and Hollande were on a visit to Kiev, where they discussed the situation in the southeast of the country with the Ukrainian leadership. As a result of yesterday's negotiations, the heads of Germany and France announced that they would go to Moscow to continue negotiations, now with the President of Russia.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Putin previously sent a secret letter to Merkel and Hollande in which he proposed discussing granting the Donbass militias more territory and autonomy.
