The court in Chernigov sentenced the senior soldier of the local unit of the National Guard to 9 years in the colony on charges of treason. This was reported by the regional prosecutor's office, without bringing the name of the convict.

The soldier received a punishment below the lower limit: the part 1 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine imputed to him provides for a period of 12 to 15 years. The supervisory authority does not specify the reason for the relatively soft sentence.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the court found that the National Guard through “one of the Russian sites” transmitted information to the Russian special services. "They were provided with data, in particular, on the defense plans of the military towns of the National Guard of Ukraine, the call sign and radio frequencies, the warning schemes and combat calculations of the military unit, as well as the information about the soldiers and officers of their units, including those who visited the anti -terrorist operation zone," the report said.

As the supervisory authority notes, the soldier himself turned to the Russian special services, wanting to become their employee.

In mid -March 2014, the SBU announced the detention in Chernigov of the Russian spy V. Makarov, a personnel employee of the GRU. It was claimed that for two years under a stranger, he lived in a country with a passport of a citizen of Ukraine and actively recruited local residents, mainly the military, trying to find out the information constituting a state secret.

It was also reported that Makarov, working under the guise of an employee of the Public Organization of the Anti-Corruption Committee of Ukraine, collected incriminating evidence to corrupt officials and transferred the information received to Russia for their blackmail.

The spy was detained with red -handed, when he received secret documentation on the latest self -runs self -control systems. The case was opened against him under part 1 of Article 114 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (espionage), which provides for 8 to 15 years in the colony.
