Roskomnadzor accused Twitter of violating the law on extremism

The head of Roskomnadzor Alexander Zharov said that Twitter "consistently does not comply with the requirements of Russian legislation, including those aimed at countering extremism."

Zharov referred to the company's official report , according to which Twitter received 108 requests from the Russian authorities to disclose users' personal data in the second half of 2014. None of them were satisfied.

For comparison, 1,622 requests were received from the US authorities in the second half of the year, 80 percent of them were satisfied. In the first half of the year, the US sent 1,257 requests, 72 percent were granted.

“Roskomnadzor has a legitimate question about the acceptability of such a position for a company that operates in the territory of the Russian Federation. A corresponding official request for clarification of Twitter's position will be formulated and sent to the administration of the social network in the near future," Zharov said.
